Spanish major what?

Yes, you read that right. I studied Spanish as an undergraduate; not politics, not government. I fell into campaigns and elections by accident. In the spring of 2009 there were no jobs.

No. Jobs.

So I did the next best thing: an internship. Except that those were also really hard to come by. Tired of competing with Masters' students for photocopying and coffee-delivery work, I succumbed to the badgering of a super-liberal neighbor; I applied for an internship on Capitol Hill.

One thing led to another and I found myself as a field organizer in a competitive congressional race in northwestern Connecticut. That was four years ago. Four years, five elections and five victories.

Now I am an ex-politico experiencing my first election from the luxury of my couch and the comparative comfort of a job in higher education. I am enrolled in a graduate program and taking a course on the media and the presidential election. This blog has its origins in this course.

I am not going to pretend that I have all the answers. Although I am outside the fracas that we call presidential elections, I find myself as perplexed as the next person.

Did that really just happen?

This blog is my attempt to interpret this season's political fray. Enjoy.
